Way to go F train

A farmer in Bangladesh was awarded a prize for killing over 83,000 rats...

"Hey, where's my prize?" said the F train.

Ah, come on guys!

Press play. My favorite part is 1912, but 1828 is nice too.

I was all alone on the J train this afternoon and decided to sing really loud.

UCB

We saw Chevy Chase surprise host a free improv show at UCB last night. The only thing that sucked was that I couldn't eat him up.

Naïve Cliché Façade

When I'm riding the D train over the Manhattan Bridge, I like to pretend I'm some old-school city kid or aspiring boxer, but most of the time I look around to find none of that fantastical urban grit. All that is over for now.

The View

I love to look up 2nd Ave from the tables at Whole Foods. A friend of mine who loves WF hates how it makes him miss the old (90s) New York.

Tenement Living

I'm not being silly; I live in a tenement y'all! Back when all unpoor people lived in single-fam houses, apartment buildings were simply called tenements. It became a bad word because they were wretched. The first ones didn't have toilets or water and many didn't have windows. The second ones had more windows, but many were just to hallways and others looked out on shafts that were often used as a toilet/dumpster/pet cemetery. The third ones were a little better, but large families still lived in 350 square foot rat holes like mine. The beautiful facades and interior detail blow my mind, given that these buildings were designed to sardinify working-class immigrants. Still haven't been to the Tenement Museum and it's only two blocks away.

The Lower East Side in the 1890's.

I can see the Chrysler Building when I stick my head out my window and look north.

They were huge in the 70's

I took this  for an architectural survey of the East Village not knowing that it was once the back door of CBGB, where the picture from this album cover was taken. CBGB or CBGB's? I also saw the dad from The Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players walking up 2nd Ave today. They mention CBGB in one of their songs and call it CBGB's.
